ROSS County will launch their debut assault on the SPL on home turf.

Victoria Park will be the setting for Ross County’s top flight league opener which will be played against Motherwell on August 4.

There’s added spice to the tie as County march into unchartered territory. Motherwell are one of Staggies’ boss Derek Adams’ old clubs and will be playing European football this year as a consequence of a third-placed finish last season - and Rangers’ ongoing difficulties.

Assuming Glasgow Rangers remain in the SPL in some shape or form, the newly released league fixtures reveal that the Staggies will encounter both of the Old Firm rivals within the first month of competitive action.

The first eagerly anticipated derby match with Inverness Caledonian Thistle falls on October 6 and will be away from home.

Ross County entertain ICT on January 2 in what will doubtless prove a hotly contested New Year fixture.

The final local derby before the split is March 16 in Inverness.

The Dingwall club entertains SPL champions Celtic in the third week of the campaign on August 18.

If administration-bound Rangers remain in the top flight – a decision is expected to be made following a round of talks next month – County will be at Ibrox the following week (August 25).

Rangers are currently listed as “Club 12” in the fixtures list.

The club’s first visit to Aberdeen will be in the second week of the campaign on August 11. They entertain the Dons on November 3.

See this week’s Ross-shire Journal for a full fixture list and reaction.
