ROSS County's heroic efforts in humbling Celtic on the Glasgow side's home patch has provided a massive shot in the arm for the Dingwall-based club.

The Staggies pulled off a shock result in the second round of the Betfred Cup today, winning 2–0 away at Celtic.

County won a penalty in the 38th minute when Josh Reid went past his marker to send a low cross into the middle.

Ross Stewart got there first, but was taken down before promptly getting back up to convert the spot kick past Vasilis Barkas.

Celtic spent most of the match trying to find a way to claw back level, with Alban Ajeti coming closest when he hit the woodwork just before the interval.

County extended their lead five minutes before the end though, as Alex Iacovitti rose highest to head home Iain Vigurs' corner and make it 2–0.

The surprise result for the under-pressure Staggies was greeted with delight by fans of the Dingwall-based club.

Angus Lamont wrote: "Truly a fantastic performance and result! Well done all the team on the pitch and in the dugout."

Frank Crombie stated: "Congratulations Ross County. Fantastic result. Great for the Highlands."

Sandy Maclennan said: "Great result – now take this attitude and confidence into the league."

John Mackenzie said: "It was worth the wait for a good result. Now there is an opportunity to take this result and build on it for some consistency in the league."

Man of the match Ross Stewart said after the match that the club could now take belief into its next league matches.

He said: "I thought we thoroughly deserved the win. I thought from front to back you could see how good a team performance it was. What we need to do now is to use it to start getting wins in the league and move up the table. This will certainly give us a confidence boost going in to next week.

"We've got to take belief that we can go and win against any team in the league now. We've got to make sure that we treat every game as we did this one with the work rate and the willingness to run for each other and work hard. If we do that I'm sure we can get results."
