A £105,000 road resurfacing project is set to begin on a stretch of the A9 in Golspie next week.

The project – which will result in some delays for motorists – aims to improve a half-kilometre stretch to create a safer and smoother journey for motorists and to reduce the audible impact on the surrounding residential area.

The overnight improvements are scheduled to get under way on Tuesday, September 22 and are expected to take up to four nights to complete.

The project will be carried out between 7pm and 7am each night with work due to be completed by 7am on Monday, September 28.

No work is programmed for Friday or Saturday nights.

To keep road workers and road users safe during the project, a 10mph convoy traffic management system will be in place over the extent of the project during working hours.

Traffic management will be removed outwith working hours, however a 30mph speed limit will be in place as traffic will be travelling over a temporary surface.

Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Consultation has been undertaken with local residents, businesses, the local authority and emergency services to make them aware of the works and the traffic management arrangements that will be in place.

BEAR Scotland manages and maintains the trunk roads in the north-east, north-west and south-east of Scotland on behalf of Transport Scotland.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said. “This £105,000 surfacing project will greatly improve the road surface on this section of the A9, creating a safer and smoother journey for motorists.

“We have taken steps to help minimise disruption for road users as much as possible during the project including carrying out the improvements overnight. The traffic management in place is essential for ensuring the safety of road workers and road users, however our teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and safely as possible.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance and would encourage them to plan their journeys before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information.”

Real time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland on www.trafficscotland.org, twitter at @trafficscotland or the new mobile site my.trafficscotland.org.
