DELIGHTED lifesavers in Easter Ross have praised the area’s strong community support after the annual Invergordon RNLI Open Day raised thousands of pounds.

Around £3000 was generated for the RNLI through fun on the water and a colourful array of land-based activities.

The annual event was a huge success on Saturday, with fancy dress competitors hurling themselves into the traditional raft racing and all manner of family-friendly attractions on dry land – from a pet show to Highland dancing, and from judo to lifeboat and coastguard demonstrations.

The raft race title went to ILM Highland, with the fancy dress element going to Alness Youth Development’s Baywatch-themed antics.

A spokesman at the RNLI said: “Well, what a day that was. Initial counts indicate that around £3000 was raised for the RNLI on the day and this will help saving lives at sea, which was demonstrated in the early hours of this morning in the Moray Firth, with lifeboats from Buckie and Fraserburgh called into action.”
