A paddler was left stranded on a west coast island after losing their kayak.

The alarm was raised at 11.25am on Tuesday and Lochinver Lifeboat and Achiltibuie Coastguard Rescue Team were sent to the stranded kayaker, who was on one of the Summer Isles near Ullapool in Wester Ross.

The lifeboat was stood down when numerous vessels in the area responded to a coastguard pan pan broadcast.

A small fishing vessel took the paddler to the mainland where – thanks to the coastguards – they were reunited with their kayak.

Meanwhile at 1pm, Kyle Lifeboat and Kyle Coastguard Rescue Team were sent to assist a female who had suffered a suspected fractured hip on Guillamon Island, near Broadford off Skye. She was extracted by a stretcher and left in the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service. Her condition is unknown.
