Reports called for in case against Highland motorist who admitted carrying a knife and not providing a specimen to police after being stopped on Black Isle

Police stopped a 26-year-old motorist who later refused to provide a blood specimen to determine if he was fit to drive.
Inverness Sheriff Court was told that officers discovered that Thomas Stewart, of Druid Road, Inverness was again behind the wheel of a car two months later without insurance.
Sheriff Gary Aitken heard that Stewart also had a knife in the vehicle without lawful authority on August 1 while in Mackintosh Road and Millburn Road.
Stewart admitted both charges and driving while unfit through drink or drugs on the A9 between Tore and Arpafeelie on May 27 last year. He also pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen.
Defence advocate Neil Wilson said: “It is accepted that he has a considerable record of previous convictions, some of which are analogous.”
Sheriff Aitken called for a background report without hearing the full facts and deferred sentence until October 13. Stewart’s bail was continued.
