Friday, May 14, 1920

THE sudden death of a young lady, Dolly Mackay, daughter of Nurse Mackay, Tomich Road, Invergordon, cast a shadow during the weekend on the surrounding district. Being of an exceedingly bright disposition, and well-known in the Dockyard, and latterly in the pay box of La Scala Picture House, she had a wide circle of friends. She died on her 19th birthday. Deep sympathy to her widowed mother and brothers and sisters was manifested by the very large attendance at her funeral on Saturday.

DINGWALL Town Council have drawn the attention of the Chief Constable to complaints received about cyclists riding on the pavement. The pavement in front of the Post Office is said to be constantly used by cyclists and also the pavement in Station Road. Cyclists should take timeous warning.

MR Wm. Matheson, inspector of works, Buenos Ayres, nephew of the late Mr Matheson, Tore Inn, was in the district last week looking up old friends and paying a round of calls. Mr Matheson emigrated to the Argentine Republic from South Africa ten years ago, and has enjoyed a large measure of prosperity in the land of his adoption.

Friday, May 15, 1970

AN attractive eighteen-year-old pupil of Tain Royal Academy, Anne Ross, Hilton Schoolhouse, is to be the Burgh's Gala Queen this year. She was chosen by ballot among Academy pupils, a long-established custom as far as Tain Amenities Association is concerned. Her Maids-of-Honour are 17-year-old Frances Macrae, Hartmount, who for the second consecutive year is an attendant, and Daphne MacIvor, Rannich Farm, Edderton (17).

MR H.I. Matheson, of Matheson and Mackenzie, architects, Achany Road, Dingwall, is to be honoured by Dingwall Town Council for his services as

architect over a long number of years.

A FOURTH year pupil at Dingwall Academy, Dongal MacNeill, Seaforth Gardens, Dingwall, won the North of Scotland Novices Fencing competition at the Aberdeen University Gymnasium on Saturday last. Twelve Dingwall boys took part in the competition, which attracted the largest entry ever, and six of them reached the final pool of eight.

A BLACK Isle producer has made a film – to be shown on TV on May 19 – about the blockbusting new movie Rob Roy.

Cowboys in Skirts, a programme on the making of the feature film starring Liam Neeson and Jessica Lange, has been made by Don Coutts of Move On Up, a film and television production company based in Cromarty.

The half hour movie about the movie will be shown on Grampian Television as part of an ITV network transmission on Friday, May 10.

The day that Rob Roy which has taken the USA by storm, is released in the United Kingdom.

Plockton Village Hall Committee were very pleased that their application to the National Lottery was successful.

They were given a grant of £62,435 towards the cost of change of use alterations to Village Hall to provide an Arts Centre. An additional £2000 was offered to commission original works by artists and craftspeople for incorporation in the Hall.
