Muir of Ord rapist showed ‘no remorse’ following his attack in Inverness, Police Scotland officers have said
A sexual predator who raped a 16-year-old girl in an Inverness guest house has been branded “remorseless” by police after he was jailed.
Cameron Huggins (22) was sent to prison for four years at the High Court in Edinburgh this week after being found guilty in June of the rape of the teen.
As well as imprisonment Huggins has also been placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely and issued with a non-harassment order against his victim.
Commenting on his sentence, Police Scotland DC Emma Ellis, from the Inverness Domestic Abuse and Rape Investigation Unit, said: "Huggins is an abusive individual who has shown no remorse for his violent and predatory actions.
"We would encourage anyone who has experienced any form of sexual or violent offence, regardless of when it occurred, to report it. We will investigate thoroughly and have specially trained officers and partner agencies who will support you throughout."
Huggins, who had a prior conviction for domestic abuse, carried out his horrific crime in Inverness on April 10, 2023.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard how Huggins assaulted his victim whilst she was incapable of consenting to sex because of the effects of alcohol.
He locked the door of the room before he forcibly pulled down a pair of trousers she was wearing before removing her “lower clothing” and seizing her arm. He then restrained her before raping her.
Last month jurors found him guilty on a rape charge. Huggins, of Muir of Ord, denied any wrongdoing during proceedings.
Passing sentence, Judge Alison Stirling told Huggins that he’ll also be supervised by the authorities for two years following his release from custody.
She added: “Custody is the only appropriate disposal in this case.”
In October 2024, it was reported that Huggins was already on a non-harassment order to protect an ex-partner when he appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court to admit charges of assault and threatening behaviour on a new partner.
On that occasion, Huggins was placed under social work supervision for two years.
Sheriff David Harvie ordered him to carry out 120 hours of unpaid community work and to take part in the domestic abuser’s rehabilitation programme.
