Some pupils at a Highland secondary school have been advised to self-isolate for two weeks after classmates tested positive for coronavirus.

Parents of pupils at Culloden Academy were sent letters last night and on Sunday about pupils at the school contracting Covid-19.

The letter on Sunday explained one pupil had coronavirus and last night's letter stated a further case of a pupil with Covid-19 had been identified.

Last night's letter from Dr Jenny Wares, consultant in public health medicine (health protection) at NHS Highland, stated: "We know that you may find this concerning but we are working in close partnership with Dr Vance [Dr James Vance, Culloden Academy rector] to manage this situation.

"There does not appear to be links to the case identified at the weekend and all necessary action has been taken at the school."

Last night's letter stated that the infected pupil was at the school yesterday. Sunday's letter stated that the other pupil was last at school last Thursday.

Pupils who have been identified as close contacts of those who tested positive have been identified and will be self-isolating at home for 14 days.

A parent of a pupil at the school said: "This is becoming really concerning.

"My daughter attends Culloden Academy and is disgusted at the lack of social distancing.

"Please can the public be made aware of the situation at the school as this seems to be getting swept under the carpet."
