Prime cattle and sheep prices from Dingwall and Highland Marts sale

DINGWALL and Highland Marts Ltd sold eight prime cattle at its sale today.

Prime bullocks (5) averaged 221.5p (-14.7p) and sold to 229.0p per kg for a 580kg Limousin cross and £1,459.20 gross for a 640kg Charolais cross both from Easter Sheeppark, Balblair.

Prime heifers (3) averaged 227.7p (-12.1p) and sold to 233.0p per kg for a 560kg Limousin cross from Easter Sheeppark, Balblair and £1,368.75 gross for a 625kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Bridgend Farm, Dingwall both selling to Messrs John M Munro Ltd, Dingwall.

Bullocks: Easter Sheeppark, (CharX), 228.0p; Bridgend Farm, (AAX), 217.0p, (LimX), 217.0p, (SAX), 214.0p.

Heifers: Easter Sheeppark, (LimX), 232.0p; Bridgend Farm, (AAX), 219.0p.

Other leading prices per head:

Bullocks: Easter Sheeppark, £1,328.20; Bridgend Farm, (AAX), £1,139.25, (LimX), £1,117.55, (SAX), £1,091.40.

Heifers: Easter Sheeppark, (LimX), £1,357.20, £1,304.80.

The mart also sold 1982 prime sheep.

Old season lambs (1122) averaged 286.4p (-2.1p) and sold to 306.0p per kg for a pen of 42kg Cheviots from Redfield, North Kessock and £139 gross for a pen of 48kg Texel crosses from 5c Balnabeen, Conon Bridge.

SQQ 36.5kg to 45.5kg (970) averaged 289.1p (-0.9) per kg

Ewes (811) sold to £162 gross for a pen of Suffolk cross ewes from Kilcoy, Killearnan.

Feeding sheep (49) sold to £162 gross for a Texel ram from Kinchyle Farm, Scaniport.

The verdict afterwards was: “Prime sheep maintained recent rates. Well finished hoggs were in particular demand.”
