A Ross-shire school was recognised for its effort and commitment in promoting children’s rights.

Staff, pupils and parents at Strathpeffer Primary School were delighted after being awarded the Silver Right Respecting School Award by UNICEF UK — a branch of the world’s leading organisation working for children and their rights.

The Rights Respecting Schools Award is granted to schools that show commitment to promoting and realising children’s rights and encouraging adults, children, and young people to respect the rights of others in school.

Silver is given to schools that make excellent progress towards embedding the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child into its ethos and curriculum.

Headteacher of Strathpeffer primary Mrs Sarah Wojtunik said: “We are really proud to have received our Silver accreditation.

“Our Noble Global committee group, along with the commitment from all staff and children, have led us on our silver journey.

“We can see a positive impact through the ethos of our school and look forward to working towards our Gold accreditation. A massive well done and thank you to all the staff and children.”

There are over 1,300 schools across England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales that have achieved Silver and over 600 schools that have been awarded Gold, the next step up and highest accolade granted by UNICEF UK.
