RESIDENTS on Coigach are facing a second day of power disruption after another outage on the local network this morning (Wednesday).

The peninsula was one of several Wester Ross communities to suffer power losses on Tuesday amid warnings for stormy winds and heavy snows. The earlier outage affected a number of IV23, IV26 and IV27 postcodes stretching from Braemore and Loch Broom in the south to Achiltibuie and Lochinver in the north.

Power was restored in many of the affected communities by early afternoon.

But a number of IV26 postcodes on Coigach were without power again on Wednesday, as further strong winds hit the Highlands. Achiltibuie Primary School was among those buildings affected, and Highland Council tweeted shortly after 12.30pm to confirm it would be closed for the afternoon as a result of the outage.

A fault cut power to affected properties shortly before 10.30am. Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks said its engineers were now on site and hoped to have the power restored by 3pm.

“We’re sorry for the loss of supply,” said a spokesman. “We currently have a fault. Our engineers are on site working hard to get the power back on as quickly as they can.”

Anyone in the affected area who needs more information, should call SSEN on 105 or send them a message on Facebook or Twitter (@ssencommunity) and quote reference 'GA0418'.

Affected postcodes include:

  • IV26 2YF
  • IV26 2YG
  • IV26 2YH
  • IV26 2YJ
  • IV26 2YL
  • IV26 2YW
