Transition Black Isle's popular annual Potato Day gears up for Black Isle event in North Kessock
SPUDS, glorious spuds will be the order of the day when the Black Isle’s renowned Potato Day takes place early in March.
The popular annual event, run by Transition Black Isle, has become a firm fixture in the gardeners’ calendar, attracting hundreds of people eager to choose from a fascinating array of potato varieties.
The event will take place at North Kessock Hall on Saturday, March 7 from 11am to 3pm, and will also feature a café serving vegetable soup, home baking, teas and coffees.
"With more than 70 varieties of potato available, some organic and some blight resistant, this is a great way for people to experiment with trying out different kinds of tatties,” explained event organiser Julie Gibson of Transition Black Isle.
“We sell them by the tuber at 15p each so you can take the number that you want and try out different varieties a few at a time.”
In order to cut down on waste, visitors to the event are asked to bring their own bags, bringing separate bags for different varieties so they can keep them apart.
More information and a list of the varieties which will be on sale are available from the Transition Black Isle website.
