Highland namesake of Michael Jackson hit back at ‘bullies’
A man with the same name as a controversial pop star threatened to kill one of those teasing him about the coincidence.
Inverness Sheriff Court was told that 46 year old Kyle man Michael Jackson had been teased and bullied by several people for "many months" and had had enough during a night out drinking.
Fiscal depute Victoria Silver told Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald that Jackson, of Balmacara Road, was intoxicated in a local hotel on the evening of December 3, 2023 when one of his alleged tormenters came in.
Ms Silver said that Jackson “spoke angrily” to the man, who decided to leave and go to another bar to avoid a confrontation.
But when the man later emerged from that bar, Jackson was there swearing and shouting at him, telling him "you are close to losing your…life" before walking away.
The matter was reported to the police.
Jackson admitted abusive or threatening behaviour and his lawyer, John MacColl, told the court that the victim in this case, and others, had been “mercilessly bullying” his client “in an emotional way for many months”.
He said: "They kept making reference to the deceased singer, would touch Mr Jackson on the shoulder when they saw him and imitate the singer.
"That is why he acted in this way."
Sheriff Macdonald fined Jackson £470.
