HIGHLAND police have shared footage of a camper van carelessly overtaking a cyclist by not allowing enough space to do so safely.

It comes as police roll out their Operation Close Pass initiative which recently saw 10 drivers stopped in Dingwall.

That aims to raise awareness amongst all road users about the importance of giving others enough space when overtaking them.

In a tweet today, Highland police shared footage captured by officers of a white camper can overtaking a cyclist on the A835 near Ullapool.

The driver, they said, was convicted of careless driving and had their licence endorsed with nine penalty points as well as being handed a £400 fine.

It added: "Give cyclists as much room as you would a car."
