A 56-year-old man has been charged with dangerous driving in connection with a lorry travelling on the wrong side of the A9 south of Drumochter.

Police Scotland said they received multiple 999 calls regarding the lorry heading south on the northbound lanes of the dual carriageway section of the A9 at Dalnaspidal on Friday afternoon.

Roads Policing Unit officers in the area attended and traced the vehicle in question following the incident at around 4.45pm.

A force spokesperson confirmed that the man has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

She said: "We would like to thank the public for their assistance in this matter, and highlight their efforts to prevent a serious incident from occurring.

"This incident reinforces the importance of remaining vigilant whilst on the road.

"The good observations of the northbound users of this stretch of road and actions of others driving on the road at the time have prevented a serious collision which could have had a tragic outcome."
