A82 stolen car crash south of Inverness following chase leaves Police Scotland officer in hospital with ‘serious’ injuries
Two men have been charged after a car chase on the A82 ended in a crash that left a police officer seriously injured in hospital.
The incident took place on Sunday evening after police received reports at around 5.10pm that a silver Subaru Forester had been stolen from Cambrai Court in Dingwall.
Police soon received word that the same car was “being driven dangerously” on the A82 south of Inverness.
Officers said the car failed to stop “and a pursuit took place”, which resulted in the car colliding with one of the chasing police vehicles near Dunain.
The crash resulted in a female policer officer needing treatment in hospital for “serious, but not life-threatening injuries”, said a spokesperson for Police Scotland. A male officer also sustained minor injuries in the crash
The driver of the car, a 29-year-old man, was also taken to hospital for treatment.
He and a 42-year-old man were expected to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court later on Monday after being charged in connection with the incident.
Inspector Donald MacKinnon, from the Dingwall Road Policing Unit, said: “Further enquiries into this incident remain ongoing and we ask for any motorists who may have seen the Subaru being driven between Dingwall and the A82 prior to the crash, to please come forward. You can call police on 101, quoting ‘incident 2522 of January 26’.”
