POLICE are now involved in the long-running row over the location of the North Kessock bottle bank.

For years the local community has been divided over where the big plastic recycling bins should be sited.

Mysteriously, the bank was on several occasions relocated by persons "unknown" at dead of night.

The matter became so serious that Highland Council arranged a local ballot, complete with CCTV security measures, to decide once and for all where the bank should go.

Despite a majority vote in favour of the car park site, the bank has been moved again at dead of night, and was shifted to the park at the village hall.

A spokesperson for Highland Council said: "The council is disappointed to learn that an individual or individuals within North Kessock have decided to ignore the democratic decision of the local community on the location of the bottle banks and move these overnight to outside the village hall.

"Of 874 members of the local community who voted in February, 67%% decided that the bottle bank should be returned to the car park location in North Kessock.

"The bottle bank have been returned this morning to the location agreed by the community but this has wasted council officer time and resource which should be focused on delivering services for the local community. This is unacceptable.

"The council has therefore reported the matter to the police and we are seeking advice on next steps.

The council would urge anyone with information to contact Police Scotland on 101."

It was obvious from posts on the local community Facebook page that North Kessock people are angry and fed up with a saga.
