Fresh appeal from Ross-shire police over A87 road accident between Kyle and Balmacara as it emerges woman (73) has died from injuries

POLICE in Ross-shire have renewed an appeal for information after a road accident near Kyle of Lochalsh which has resulted in the death of a woman.

The accident happened at around 1pm on Sunday, August 22 and it has now emerged that one of those involved has subsequently died.

The accident involved a Honda Jazz and a Skoda Rapid which were in collision on the A87 between Balmacara and Kyle of Lochalsh.

Valerie MacKinnon (73), from Sleat on the Isle of Skye, who was a passenger in the Skoda Rapid, was seriously injured in the crash.

She was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where, sadly, she died on Wednesday of last week.

Her family are aware.

The two other people injured in the crash, the 58-year-old male driver of the Honda and his 55-year-old female passenger, were both released from hospital after treatment.

Sergeant Ewan Calder, Highland and Islands Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family of Mrs MacKinnon at this time. Officers are continuing to carry out enquiries in relation to this collision and would appeal to anyone who has not yet been spoken to get in touch with police.Information can be passed to officers via 101. Please quote reference number 1969 of Sunday, 22 August, 2021, when calling."
