British Transport Police have issued an appeal for information after a woman rail passenger was sexually assaulted.

Police officers investigating a sexual assault on a woman rail passenger travelling from Inverness to Glasgow have issued an appeal for information.

The incident happened on Saturday, May 14, just after 5.30pm between Inverness and Stirling.

Also on board the train were groups of football fans.

A man approached and sat next to the victim and started offering her alcohol.

He then touched her inappropriately and ignored her when she refused his advances.

He remained in the seat and continued to try to speak with the victim, eventually kissing her on the cheek against her will.

He then said, "I love you" before moving to another carriage.

British Transport Police are appealing for witnesses who may have been on the train between Inverness and Stirling, and could help with their enquiries.

A spokesperson for the force said: "If you witnessed this incident, or have any information, please contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 639 of May 17, 2022.

"Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
