A march aimed at raising awareness about mental health issues has made its way through Inverness city centre.

Numbers were limited to a maximum of 50 participants, due to the Covid-19 safety restrictions, and it covered a distance of one mile – from Bught Park to Inverness Castle.

It featured the Mikeysline charity, together with Nature 4 Health and Clay Studio, and was part of the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival (SMHAF).

The event was aimed at getting people to walk a mile in other people’s shoes and Mikeysline support worker Graeme Watson said: “It’s a great event even though we’ve been very limited with numbers.”

He said the annual event normally attracts 150-200 people, adding: “They are very strict guidelines but Highland Council and police have been excellent.”

Inverness MP Drew Hendry was glad to support the cause. “I think it’s a great idea,” he said. “Anything that brings attention to people opening up and talking about their feelings can be good.”

He said that the issues surrounding mental health should be supported.
