A COLD snap with snowfall witnessed widely across Ross-shire brought delight for many.

With weather warnings for snow and ice in place and fluctuating temperatures since New Year's Day – one of the warmest on record – it paid to keep a close eye on what was happening outside the window for anyone considering travelling or having some fun before the schools go back.

So while conditions on the roads were tricky in many places, the carpet of white was welcomed by fun-seeking sledgers keen to hit the slippery slopes while the going was good.

Sledgers in Tain were amongst those managing to find good spots for a slide.

The B9176 – better known locally as the Struie – was less inviting for drivers.

But for photographers, there were some prime scenes to snap, such as the view from Nigg Hill.

The Met Office earlier updated a weather warning for ice and snow in the Highlands.
