COMBINED choirs preparing for the Mòd rose magnificently to the occasion when forced into an eleventh-hour change of plan over their venue.

Eadarainn, the combined Gaelic choirs of Dingwall and Inverness, held what was described as a very successful pre-Mòd cèilidh on Saturday.

Due to take place at the new Gaelic centre, Cultarlann, a change of venue had to be found at the last minute due to an electrical fault.

The choir’s Ross Brindle said afterwards: “Fortunately, the choir sourced Old High St. Stephen’s church, with its wonderful acoustics. We were privileged to be joined by pupils from both Dingwall and Inverness, who displayed their skills to an appreciative audience.

“Dan MacKinnon, a sixth year pupil at Dingwall Academy, flawlessly played a few tunes on the pipes, whilst each of the Inverness-based choirs, Còisir na h-Òige and Ceòl na h-Òige, sang their Mòd pieces beautifully.

“The audience was also treated to performances from soloists from each choir airing their competition songs for the first time. Eadarainn showcased their pieces for all of the choral competitions for this year’s Mòd, along with competing soloists Ruaridh Morrison, Torquil Maclean and Saffron Hanvidge. A wonderful afternoon was rounded off with tea/coffee and home baking.”
