Catwalk challenge accepted as Black Isle branch of Cancer Research fashions new record; Jurys Inn Show raises £5000 for vital research
A POIGNANT fashion show fundraiser organised by a Ross-shire branch of a cancer charity and featuring models from across the county has hauled in its highest ever total – while paying tribute to a special woman credited with laying the groundwork for its success.
The Black Isle branch of Cancer Research is set to chip in another £5000 to the cause following last Friday's show which honoured the late Maria Ross, a hairdresser who devoted hours of her time to preparing models for past events.
Jenna MacLean (10), who has battled blood cancer, was a star turn alongside fellow sufferer Carolyn Fea with whom she struck up a friendship.
Branch chairwoman Anne Maciver said: "Jenna wrote a beautiful supportive letter to Carolyn which she hand delivered. Their friendship blossomed and she agreed to come to the show as a model."
Carrie Lennon from Cancer Research welcomed everyone and said a few words about the progress that has been made and work to find a cure.
Claire Stoddart made a very moving speech, which highlighted the fun-loving and caring person Maria was.
Carolyn Wilson compered the evening and was joined by her staff at Victoriana who, along with Charlotte Smith Bridal, supplied the stunning outfits. .
Branch treasurer Pauline Fox and chairwoman Anne Maciver thanked Tulloch Homes, Willie Gray Construction an all the models and the two young gentlemen who made sure the ladies got safely on and off the catwalk.
They also thanked those who donated raffle prizes, the ladies who helped with various tasks behind the scenes, and make-up ladies, Lucinda and Kim at Black Orchid who made the room look so lovely and John Harrison for special effects..
It was staged at Jurys Inn hotel in Inverness.
