Rain puts fun on hold at Whin Park.

Wellies and waterproofs have been essential for those venturing out today as a band of heavy rain showers continued to pass through the Highlands.

Paths in some areas of the Ness Islands were submerged by water while deep puddles formed around play equipment in Whin Park, popular with visitors from across the Highlands.

With the weather stuck in an unsettled turbulent pattern, downpours have swept across the country.

The forecast for this afternoon in the Inverness area is that it will remain dull and damp.

The rain will continue to be quite heavy and persistent in most places and it will stay quite cool with moderate to fresh north-easterly winds.
