A novel drive-in Christmas carol singalong has raised more than £800 for a Highland charity.

The Haven Appeal, which is planning to develop a pioneering centre for children and young people with learning disabilities and complex needs at a site in Inverness, staged the event in the car park at Smithton Free Church.

Almost 100 people joined in the singing which was led by Elsie Normington, chairwoman of the Elsie Normington Foundation, and David Sutherland, appeal chairman.

"It was the first time we have done anything like this and it was a great success," Mrs Normington said.

"People loved it and at the end of each carol, they were tooting their car horns and flashing their lights.

"It really created some Christmas cheer and laughter."

She thanked Don MacRitchie Haulage for supplying the trailer for the stage.

Another drive-in singalong with a different selection of songs will take place for the appeal at the Inverness Caledonian Thistle car park on Saturday, December 19, starting at 2pm.

People will be invited to give donations.
