THE people of an Easter Ross town turned out in force to pay their last respects to a local teenager killed in a tragic road accident.

Tribute was paid to Craig Melville, who was 16, through a special cortege of sports and performance cars driven through the centre of Alness on the day he was laid to rest.

Craig's former boss Kevin MacLennan said: "Craig's family have asked me to thank all the car guys for turning up today, an amazing turn out for a very special young man. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this sad time."

The former Alness Academy pupil was a passenger in a car involved in a collision on the B9176 on March 27.

Members of the public took to Facebook to share their condolences on Friday.

One posted: "Sad but amazing to see the good people of Alness on the street in support of a well-known local family. And the car boys done Craig proud. R.I.P young man."

Another stated: "I didn’t personally know wee Craig but have seen and heard so much about how much he was respected. It’s lovely to see how many people turned out to pay their respects."

One who witnessed the tribute said: "Amazing how many people came together for him just showed how many people knew and loved him! He would have loved all the cars. Fly high, Craig."

A friend said: "So sad he was such a nice wee guy. Always loved him from day one."

And another summed up the feelings of friends: "Craig will be sorely missed by many. It was lovely to see so many people come together for Craig and his family. Thoughts are with them all."
