The winners of a photography competition held in memory of a founding member of the North Sutherland Wildlife Group have been announced.

Now in its third year, the Abigail (Abby) Rhodes Photography Competition welcomed online entries in two categories, “Flora” and “Fauna”.

The competition aimed to showcase the extraordinary wildlife of Sutherland and pictures which best expresses an empathy with it.

Entries were encouraged from people of all photography skill levels, using any kind of equipment. Use of image editing software was discouraged.

Stephen Kirkup was declared the winner of the Fauna category with his entry “Stonechat Female on Bracken”, while John Wright from Strath Hallandale won in the Flora category with his “Foxglove (Digitalis puprurea)” entry.

A special Young Photographer award went to Connie Gordon from Tongue for her entry, entitled ‘Snowdrops’.

The overall best photograph and winner of the Abigail Rhodes Photography Competition Trophy for 2022 was awarded to ‘Stonechat Female on Bracken”.
