PUPILS at an Easter Ross school were offered a parting lesson about following their dreams on the last day of term – with two local ‘giants’ popping in to reinforce the message.

And South Lodge Primary pupils had a surprise in store for returning visitors Luke and Tom Stoltman – the brothers who have put Invergordon on the map with their world-beating strongman exploits.

When the dynamic duo popped in shortly before the first lockdown back in February 2020, they gifted the primary a framed, signed T-shirt to raffle for school funds.

The proceeds have been used to buy specially-commissioned outdoor picnic benches, including one that is wheelchair accessible – and, to the delight of the brothers – a ‘Giant’s Chair ‘crafted by chainsaw artist, Iain Chalmers.

With Tom holding the world’s strongest man title and his big brother Luke winning a Europe’s strongest man contest, head teacher David Hayes-Macleod said: “We wanted to honour them in our very own special way.

“Therefore our new Giant’s Chair has been crafted out of Highland oak, Luke’s tag name, with an oak tree carved out of the wood with an Albatross, Tom’s tag name, perched on the side.

“We want this chair to be a long-lasting reminder to the youth of Invergordon that if they dream big and work hard at their dreams – they can come true.”

The brothers’ delight was obvious during a visit to the school last Friday. The gesture meanwhile has been well received. Shirley Cooper posted: “What a fantastic idea to honour two great guys on their achievements. Well done. South Lodge Primary.”

Sonah Smith summed up the feelings of many: “Absolutely amazing.”
