WHEN Dingwall Primary pupils told us of their concern about litter in nearby woodland and their determination to do something about it, we were only too happy to help them raise awareness.

A handwritten letter from P7 pupil Andrew Mowat set out the plans for a litter pick and outlined how it tied in with the school’s Earth Day work.

Pupil Kayleen Paterson (12) added: “Dingwall Primary School are very keen to help our community. In April, P7b was working on the global goals and looking at health and wellbeing.”

One of those global goals centres around tidying up local communities.

Kayleen said: “So, we decided to write some letters, we wrote to the council, and they kitted us with lots of litter-picking equipment. They gave us gloves, litter pickers and bin bags.

“The Ross-shire Journal agreed to send a photographer and agreed to cover our story and Sean Kennedy, our local councillor, came along to help.

“We went out to Maggie’s Drive Woods to pick up litter. We picked up lots of litter and filled a phenomenal 12 bags! It was a very successful trip to the woods for our litter picking.”
