PICTURES: Black Isle honours shared at Cromarty Regatta

Cromarty Coastal Rowing Club hosted a “fabulous” regatta weekend which saw clubs from across the Highlands participate.

The weekend took place from August 10 to 11 and saw Avoch and Cromarty tie as the overall winners for 2024.

Gairloch Coastal Rowing Club said: “Fabulous weekend at Cromarty Regatta 2024! Made us all welcome and provided a wonderful regatta with sunshine, camaraderie, smiles, fun and sportsmanship! Thank you to all organizers — brilliant hosts! And thanks to our Gairloch team — Martin and Allison for transporting and organising, coxes, rowers and supporters! We make a great team!”

The regatta also saw the presentation of the Goodie Shepherd Award, for outstanding contribution to the Cromarty Community Rowing Club (CCRC).

CCRC said, announcing the winner: “This years Goodie Shepherd Award voted by members of our club for Outstanding Contribution to Cromarty Community Rowing Club all year round, for so much work behind the scenes, organising regattas, setting courses and teams goes to Sophie and Graeme Collard.”

South Skye and Lochalsh Community Rowing Club said: “Thank you, Cromarty Community Rowing Club, for an unforgettable regatta weekend! The warmth and camaraderie we experienced from the moment we arrived was so welcoming, especially as our newer crew members are just getting into the regatta scene.

“The weather kept us on our toes, with choppy conditions on Saturday giving way to a stunning Sunday, but it was the spirit of teamwork and the sheer joy of rowing together that made the event truly special.

“From the brilliantly organised races and expert umpiring, to the delicious catering and the vibrant atmosphere, to the fun race - where we won medals - all set against the stunning backdrop of Cromarty.

“A huge thank you also goes out to our fantastic team here at South Skye & Lochalsh Coastal Rowing Club — our committee, coxes, regatta organisers, rowers and those who came along to support us. This was one weekend to remember and we are already looking forward to next year!”
