A TWIN-pronged effort involving a team of supermarket co-workers in Easter Ross boosted a cancer charity’s kitty to the tune of over £2200.

Colleagues at the Tain Tesco committed to running a virtual Race for Life to benefit Cancer Research.

The icing on the cake came from Ceri Cattanach who baked throughout April, offering it to local contacts and colleagues with an honesty box for collections. Her tantalising tablet, traybakes and millionaire shortbread added £813.46 to the effort as Team Tesco Tain realised a total of £2218.46 for the charity.

Friends had previously run the Race for Life and came up with their own Covid-19-safe effort when this year’s event was cancelled.

Eleven took part, one of them, part-timer Fraser Denoon, on his own and screened via FaceTime, as he is at university.

Others taking part in Tain were Ceri Cattanach, community champion Emily Lacey-Teagle, store manager James Stevenson, Rowan Macleod, Simon Burston, Courtney Maver, Lorraine MacDonald, Denise Hart, Sheila Stein and James Hart.

Ms Cattanach said: “We did just over 5k so we set off at a social distance from our store along the links in Tain.”

She added: “The weather was lovely and sunny and cars were beeping and giving us a wave. A couple of cars stopped along with people in the street and put money in our fundraiser bucket.”
