PICTURES: Festive fun in Alness at Christmas in the Field event

FOR some, it felt as chilly as the North Pole – and certainly the appearance of some festive-looking reindeer may have left a few folk scratching their heads in Alness last week.

Christmas hadn’t quite come early, but festive spirits were certainly high as The Place made full use of its temporary stretch tent in a Covid-friendly outdoor location in the Easter Ross town.

Christmas in the Field, organised by the youth organisation’s girls’ group, was voted a roaring success by everyone who attended.

Around 250 members of the community enjoyed a visit from Santa and his reindeer – on this occasion, seconded from Cairngorm Reindeer Centre.

Josh Hutchison of The Place team said: “Words cannot describe how amazing these last nine weeks have been, delivering youth work under our tent and we are so proud of all the great things we’ve achieved in that short period of time.

“When we talked about developing The Field, who could have predicted the popularity of the project, or the amazing help we would receive from some great people.”

Janette Douglas, Anna O’Brien, Helen Ross, Sharlene Henderson, Ellie Vass, Aeryn Cleary, Connor Caskie and Anja and Lexie Munro all worked on the Christmas event.

In total, more than 1200 made use of the project, developed to overcome Covid-19 restrictions. The Place thanked many well-wishers and businesses for their support.
