Wick man Paul Steven captured a once in a lifetime image of a golden eagle flying into the setting sun near Forsinard on Monday afternoon.

Paul, who describes himself as an amateur photographer, was "out enjoying the countryside on a crisp December day" with his wife Shonaid as they travelled from the Strath of Kildonan into remote parts of Flow Country near the RSPB visitor centre at Forsinard.

"As we were driving along I spotted it [the golden eagle] sitting on a telegraph pole and as I stopped it took off and flew away," he said.

Quickly exiting the car, Paul's quick reactions led to him bagging a photograph of the massive bird of prey as it flew into the sunset.

"I have seen golden eagles before but never lucky enough to capture them on my camera."

Paul was also lucky enough to record images of an otter as it frolicked about in Wick river recently as well.
