TWO Fortrose Academy pupils who made the national final of the Donald Dewar Memorial Debating competition have been hailed by the school.

Thomas Fox and Edie Mathewson, who were both in S5 at the time, just before the summer break, are used to thinking on their feet and were forced to contest online as a result of the coronavirus crisis. They argued the case: “This house would introduce a universal basic income.”

Teacher Karen Meikle drove their effort with support from Gwyneth Howroyd.
