THE RNLI's Kessock lifeboat was scrambled in the early hours of Good Friday after reports of a person in the River Ness.

The crew were called out at 1.29am in response to a request from HM Coastguard.

"We were called to assist a person who had been in the water in the River Ness, between the main bridges in the town centre," said a spokesman.

"With temperatures below freezing and a mid-tide in the river, our Atlantic 85 carrying a crew of four quickly arrived close to the scene.

"All were relieved to be stood down shortly after with the news that the person was safely in the hands of the emergency services.
