Passengers are warned of ‘major’ disruption on Scotrail trains between Inverness and Edinburgh/Glasgow today
Passengers have been warned of “major disruption” on Scotrail trains between Inverness and Edinburgh/Glasgow today as services have been cancelled and rerouted via Aberdeen adding hours to journey times.
Both engineering works and a pay dispute are causing the problems with routes across the country affected though the main line north appears to be worst affected by the disruption.
A reduced timetable is already in place because only about 50 per cent of services are running on Sundays after drivers declined to work overtime in a row over pay, heralding more disruption..
Currently, the 13.26 direct to Edinburgh will have two less carriages but those travelling on that train to Glasgow Queen Street will have a one hour wait before changing trains in Stirling. It will also have three carriages, two two less than normal.
The 15.29 to Edinburgh only arrives at 21.38 as passengers are effectively catching a train to Aberdeen, where there is one hour and 25 minutes wait, to catch another to Edinburgh – almost doubling the journey time.
Similarly the 17.03 to Edinburgh is also via Aberdeen and is expected to arrive after a two hour 16 minute transfer time that is doubling the journey time to just under seven hours, and it arrives just after midnight.
National Rail is showing that no fares are available for either the 15.29 or the 17.03 services to Glasgow Queen Street and they are not available on the Scotrail site so they have likely been cancelled.
Those travelling from Edinburgh to Inverness will have an easier time with 15.52, the 16.32 and 17.50 basically all running as normal, similarly from Glasgow 15.32, 16.01, the 17.53 are all scheduled almost as normal.
