The family of a popular “beautiful and cherished” young woman who was a familiar face to customers of a Highland health food store have been left devastated by her death.

Susan Moir died at the age of just 32 after suffering a sudden brain haemorrhage.

She had only recently moved in with her partner Charles Fraser and the couple were looking forward to a new life together.

Miss Moir, of Old Edinburgh Court in Inverness was a much-loved member of staff at The Health Shop in Baron Taylor’s Street.

She had previously spent time volunteering at Highland Hospice and working in the police canteen in Inverness.

In a funeral notice her parents, Neil and Fiona Moir, described their daughter as: “Beautiful and cherished.”

Mrs Moir said: “She had a lovely childhood, and she was a wonderful daughter. Susan went to Holm Primary School and then Inverness Royal Academy before going on to study at Inverness College.”

As well as the hospice and the police canteen, Susan also worked in Smiggle, a stationery shop in the Eastgate Centre.

Mrs Moir said: “It was pink and sparkly – just like Susan. She loved celebrations and she especially loved the sparkle of Christmas.”

Susan was then offered a job in The Health Shop in Baron Taylor’s Street where she really made her mark.

“She loved her job there. The owners, Linda and Martin, were so good to her and she was such a part of the team in the shop. Over lockdown, as an essential worker, she went into work every day and she looked forward to it.”

After the lockdown restrictions started to loosen in June, Susan moved in with her partner, Charles, and the couple had begun to build their home together, collecting the last of her belongings from her parents’ home only days before her death.

Mrs Moir said: “It is so sad that we should lose Susan so suddenly at a time when she and Charles had everything to look forward to. We had Susan for 32 very happy years. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

“Her death was very sudden, and there wasn’t anything that anyone could do. She had a brain haemorrhage and died very suddenly.”

Linda Sellar, owner of The Health Shop, said: “Susan will be greatly missed by the staff and customers of the shop. Her death was so sudden and quite unexpected.

“It is hard to imagine that she went home from work one day, and was not ill or unwell, and she did not come back in the next day.

“Susan was a great asset to our team and she and her colleague Louise were vital to keeping the shop open during the pandemic. She hardly had a day off.

“She had a wide range of interests such as trips to Wimbledon, or to London to concerts and motor car racing. She was very independent, It was wonderful when she met Charles and we were all delighted when they decided to move in together. She will be sorely missed by everyone.”

A private family service took place at John Fraser & Son funeral home.
