Invergordon-based CPR charity holds the key to swift sharing of life-saving information

A KEYRING that provides potentially life-saving information for users could be rolled out across the UK if an Invergordon-based charity has its way.

The CPR group was set up last year by Kevin Dryburgh after his brother-in-law had a heart attack.

“We realised that people don’t always have the information they need to hand when dealing with a crisis situation,” he said.

His brother-in-law has now fully recovered thanks to good emergency care.

“We found out that adults sometimes have a lack of skills in knowing what to do in a range of medical and mental health emergencies and so we set out to raise money and work with the public sector to create a source of quick and reliable information for people,” Mr Dryburgh said.

“We have done this by developing a website that can be accessed through a keyring with a QR code on it.

“The idea is that people always carry their phone and keys – and having a keyring on them could save lives.”

The community interest company distributed 500 “wellbeing packs” last December containing the keyring as well as information from a range of health organisations including the Scottish Association for Mental Health.

“The feedback has been overwhelming,” Mr Dryburgh said.

“We gave the packs to schools in Invergordon and people have been telling us how useful they are.

“Over the course of our research we found out that only two in 10 parents would know how to save a life.

“In almost 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests only five per cent of people survive. We want to change that. People living in rural areas can wait much longer for medical help to arrive and that is why we think that the keyrings could be really helpful.”

The CPR group is now in discussion with local authorities and health boards across the country about rolling out its innovation.
