Opening of Ullapool post office is a ‘welcome permanent solution’, says Far North MP Jamie Stone
Far North MP Jamie Stone has hailed the opening of a new post office in Wester Ross as a “heartening” example for the restoration of public services in Highland communities.
The Highland MP attended the opening of Ullapool’s new Post Office in Tesco on Friday.

Since the closure of Parlett’s Convenience Store in November 2022 - which housed Ullapool’s previous Post Office, the village had been using a temporary service from Ullapool Village Hall, which closed last March.
This closure was then followed by the use of a mobile service - making yesterday’s opening a welcome permanent solution after a period of uncertainty.
On his visit, Mr Stone said: “Post offices are intrinsic to the social fabric of rural communities. They are places for people to access cash, pay bills and bump into friends.
“In recent years, the sustainability of the branch network has seemed precarious - as multiple closures have been announced across the UK.
“In the previous Parliament, I led a debate on the importance of rural postal services. This is why I am heartened to see the necessary action being taken to restore these vital services to Ullapool. It goes to show that permanent solutions can be found, and for the better.
“Personally, I would like to see the same approach taken to other public services in our Highland communities.”
