A WESTER Ross garden nursery is to introduce "zero contact" plant box deliveries in the local area to help keep green-fingered people in the garden during the lockdown.

Garden Cottage Nursery, at Tournaig near Poolewe, will be offering a range of boxes for £25 apiece.

The move follows the country-wide coronavirus lockdown.

Commenting on its Facebook page, the garden centre said: "You can’t visit our nursery at the moment but we thought that we could start a zero contact local (Gairloch Parish) plant box delivery scheme to keep us in business and you in the garden while the lock-down is in effect.

"This delivery scheme we hope will allow our customers to still get a gardening fix without the risk of contact and for us to keep the wolf from the door. We look forward to hearing from you!"

"For £25 a box customers can choose from one or more of the below options.

Boxes:

  • Spring Rockery Collection – A colourful mixture of shorter plants; alpines, heathers and bulbs
  • Spring Garden Collection – A mix of spring flowering bulbs, heathers, herbaceous perennials
  • Spring Tub Fillers Collection – All the plants you need to fill a large planter
  • Ericaceous Collection – a selection of 9 colourful heathers, 4 dwarf Rhododendrons and a Pieris
  • Tough Shrubs – a selection of young wind hardy ornamental bushes

"All boxes will contain more in total value than the box price of £25 and all plants will have descriptive labels.

"If you want something other than the suggested boxes or to make additions - e.g. if you want some shrubs, climbers or herbs that aren’t included in the collections, or a whole hedge! - you can call Ben for a chat or peruse the Availability List on our website (http://www.gcnursery.co.uk/availability.htm) and take a note of the plant names and let us know what you would like us to include at the listed price.

"Sorry we don’t have any compost or veg plants and won't be able to get any given the current situation.

"The minimum order for delivery is £25. Orders can be made via phone or WhatsApp (01445 781777 / 07468 250719). Please call with your order, card details, phone number and precise directions to your house.

"Ben will then fill you a box or boxes with your desired type of plants and Lesley will deliver it to inside your garden gate."

The first deliveries were expected to take place on Monday.

"If you have friends who love their garden but are not on Facebook please give them a ring and let them know they can phone us for more information," they added.
