FORTY-eight hours have now passed since the NHS Highland area last recorded a positive test for Covid-19.

The region's number of confirmed coronavirus cases remained unchanged on 386 when the latest daily update was published this afternoon.

Across Scotland, 29 newly-confirmed cases of Covid-19 were reported in the past 24 hours.

The number of people being treated for the virus in the country's hospitals rose by six to 267 in the past day. But, in better news, Scotland once again reported no new deaths among those people who had tested positive, and the number of people in intensive care remained unchanged, at three.

In the north of Scotland, a majority of today's new Covid-19 cases were once again reported in the NHS Grampian area. It reported 18 new positive tests in the past 24 hours, to take the health board area's cumulative number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 1682. Of those, some 225 have been reported since the start of August.

But there was better news elsewhere in the north. Shetland, Orkney and the Western Isles all reported no new cases overnight, while in NHS Tayside, there were just three new diagnoses – taking that health board area's cumulative total to 1809.

Nationally there have been 19,027 confirmed cases of the coronavirus since the pandemic first hit Scotland.
