Nine fresh coronavirus cases detected across NHS Highland area; rise came as Scotland reported 1248 positive tests for Covid-19

NINE fresh coronavirus cases have been detected in the NHS Highland area.

The region's cumulative number of confirmed cases rose from 1288 to 1297 when the latest daily update was published.

There were 1248 positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland in the past 24 hours.

The number of people requiring treatment in hospital for the coronavirus increased from 1227 to 1249.

But those in intensive care fell slightly – down from 98 to 95.

Sadly, there were also 37 deaths among people for previously tested positive for the virus.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland there were no new positive tests in NHS Shetland, NHS Orkney or NHS Eileanan Siar.

NHS Grampian saw its cumulative number of cases rise 35 to 4015.

And NHS Tayside's tally rose to 5145 – up 86 since yesterday.

Some 83,259 confirmed cases have been detected across the whole of Scotland since the pandemic began.
