A HIGHLAND MSP has welcomed First Minister Nicola Sturgeon's latest announcement on Covid-19 restrictions as a step in the right direction for the region.

The First Minister today announced that the Highlands will move to tier one of the Covid-19 restrictions framework from 6am on Monday, November 2.

She also confirmed that additional restrictions on indoor household meetings will remain in place for the whole of Scotland.

Highlands and Islands MSP, Edward Mountain MSP said: “This is a step in the right direction and will be a big boost for our Highland pubs and restaurants, which were hit hard by the previous set of restrictions.

"I have called for a more targeted and scientifically justified local response to the pandemic, so I therefore welcome today’s announcement.

"Covid-19 remains a threat and the Tier One measures, although necessary, will still disrupt businesses and family life. If you require my help during this challenging time, then please contact me.”
