Hopes high Highland forty-something age group to be offered Covid-19 vaccination by the end of month

NHS Highland says it is aiming to offer all 40 to 49 year-olds a Covid vaccination by the end of May amid mounting anticipation from members of that age group keen to get inoculated.
According to Public Health Scotland, 63 per cent of those aged 40-49 year have had their first jab – behind the national trend of 70 per cent. But NHS Highland was just ahead in the number of second doses at 22 per cent compared to 20 per cent across Scotland.
The wider rollout of the vaccine programme now depends on supplies and the method of delivery.
The health board said it is using a combination of vaccination centres and GP practices to deliver the rollout in the Highlands where it has been “pleased” by the uptake – almost 100 per cent of over 60s have taken it.
A spokeswoman for the health board said: “In NHS Highland we have a combination of GP and board run vaccination clinics. These continue to operate and we have been pleased with the uptake of the vaccine so far.
“Booking of clinics is based on the vaccine available and the logistics depending on the method of delivery.
“Some areas will have started inviting the next age group, 40-49, for their first vaccine. It is our aim to have offered this to all 40-49 year olds by the end of May.”
