Seven fresh coronavirus cases detected across NHS Highland region; rise comes as 969 new Covid-19 cases were confirmed across Scotland

SEVEN further coronavirus cases have been detected across the NHS Highland region.

The area's cumulative number of cases increased to 1391 when the latest daily update was published.

Across Scotland there were 969 positive tests for Covid-19 in the past day.

The number of people with the virus who were receiving treatment in hospital last night stood at 1099, down 26 from the previous day.

Of those, some 80 people were in intensive care – a fall of 10 since Thursday.

But sadly a further 37 deaths were recorded among people who had tested positive for the virus.

Elsewhere in the north of Scotland there were no new positive tests in Shetland or Orkney. But NHS Eileanan Siar detected two fresh infections, to take its cumulative total to 78.

There were 73 new Covid-19 cases in NHS Grampian, taking its running tally to 4624.

And there were 71 fresh infections in NHS Tayside, which saw its overall total increase to 5762.

Scotland has now detected 93,155 cases of Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic.
