Another 144 cases of Covid-19 coronavirus recorded across NHS Highland region

A FURTHER 144 cases of Covid-19 have been detected across the NHS Highland area.

The region’s cumulative number of positive tests since the start of the pandemic rose from 6374 to 6518 when Public Health Scotland released its latest daily update on Wednesday.

The figures also revealed that 3887 positive tests for Covid-19 were registered across Scotland in the past 24 hours. This was the equivalent of 9.8 per cent of all tests carried out in Scotland during that time window.

The number of people in Scotland requiring hospital treatment for the virus has risen by 20 – and now stands at 235. Of those, 19 were in intensive care, which was down one from Tuesday.

Sadly another three people who tested positive for the virus in the past 28 days have since died.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were three new cases in NHS Shetland (for a running total of 269), three in NHS Orkney (for a tally of 92) and one fresh infection in NHS Eileanan Siar, which has now recorded 305 positive tests in the pandemic to date.

NHS Grampian’s running total rose by 308, and now stands at 18,050.

And NHS Tayside’s overall tally increased by 433 – to 20,271.

There have now been 281,222 known Covid-19 infections in Scotland since the beginning of the pandemic.

Almost 3.8 million Scots have now received their first vaccination jag, while more than 2.71 million have had their second.
