TWENTY-two further cases of Covid-19 were detected across the NHS Highland area in the past 24 hours.

The region’s cumulative number of cases increased from 4682 to 4704 when the latest daily figures were published.

The number of patients being treated for the coronavirus in NHS Highland hospitals has fallen by two, and now stands at 17. The number of those in intensive care was below five for the second day running.

Across Scotland there were 500 positive tests for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. This represented just 2.5 per cent of all those people tested.

The number of people receiving treatment for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night stood at 726 – a fall of 24 from Wednesday’s update.

Of those, 69 were in intensive care. This was down by one.

And sadly a further 24 people have died after testing positive for the virus in the previous 28 days.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, NHS Orkney’s run of days without new cases continued.

However, NHS Shetland recorded its first positive test in almost a month. It has now had 213 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic after one more was detected overnight. Its previous positive test was February 9.

NHS Eileanan Siar, meanwhile, detected two new infections – for a running tally of 274.

Twenty-three infections were recorded across NHS Grampian – taking its total to 13,540.

And NHS Tayside’s tally rose to 13,276 after 30 further positive tests in the past 24 hours.

There have now been 204.055 confirmed cases of the virus in Scotland since the pandemic began.

A further 26,729 people have received their first dose of the virus – taking the total to 1,688,608. And 100,058 have now had their second injection. In total, more than 34,200 people received either their first or second jag in the past 24 hours.
