A DOZEN more Covid-19 infections have been detected across the NHS Highland area in the past day.

The region’s cumulative number of known cases rose from 5060 to 5072 when the latest daily update was released at 2pm.

There were 237 positive tests across Scotland in the past 24 hours – or 1.2 per cent of all tests conducted during that period.

Some 115 people were receiving treatment in hospital for the virus last night. This was down four from Wednesday’s update.

Of those, 16 were in intensive care – also down four from yesterday.

And sadly one more person has died after previously testing positive for the virus in the past 28 days.

Elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new cases overnight in NHS Shetland, NHS Orkney or NHS Eileanan Siar.

Eighteen new cases were detected in NHS Grampian, which now has a running tally of 14,707.

And NHS Tayside’s cumulative number of confirmed infections rose by 18 to 14,495.

There have been 222,897 positive tests for the coronavirus in Scotland since the outbreak of the pandemic.

Some 2,708,691 people have now had their first Covid vaccination in Scotland, and almost 662,000 have had their second jag.
