NO new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in the NHS Highland area in the past 24 hours.

The region's cumulative number of positive tests for coronavirus since the start of the pandemic remained at 386 when Sunday's daily update was issued this afternoon.

Across the whole of Scotland there were 48 newly-confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

However, there were once again no reported deaths among those who had tested positive for the virus, and the number of people in intensive care remained at three.

Nationally, there were 261 people in Scottish hospitals last night with confirmed Covid-19 – a figure unchanged from yesterday's update.

Elsewhere in the north of Scotland, Aberdeen's ongoing virus hotspot again saw NHS Grampian record the majority of new Scottish cases.

There have been an additional 28 positive tests for Covid-19 in the health board area in the past 24 hours. NHS Grampian has now had 1664 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic – with almost 200 of those coming in the past week.

Meanwhile, NHS Shetland's long run without any new positive tests has ended after one more case was added to its cumulative total. It was the first confirmed case of Covid-19 associated with Shetland since April 22 – three-and-a-half months ago. However, in notes for today's daily update, the Scottish Government said that the case was linked to the outbreak in the NHS Grampian area, and was later reassigned to NHS Shetland as the person lives there. Shetland's overall number of cases since the start of the outbreak now stands at 55.

However there was better news in NHS Orkney and NHS Eileanan Siar, which both saw their overall number of cases remain unchanged once again.

NHS Tayside reported two new cases in the past day to take its cumulative total to 1806.
